IEEE 1547-2018 uses two independent sets of performance categories: normal performance Category A or Category B, which governs the reactive power and voltage regulation capability of clause 5, and abnormal performance Category I, Category II or Category III, which governs the voltage and frequency ride-through and trip requirements of clause 6. Annex B explains how the authority governing interconnection requirements assigns the categories and recommends which normal and abnormal categories are paired.
