Clause 8.1.2 of IEEE 1547.1-2020 defines four compliance classes that decide how much verification remains for the field: a DER unit that is fully compliant alone, a DER system of units and supplemental devices type tested together, a partially compliant unit, and a DER composite built from partially compliant components and supplemental devices. The composite class needs a detailed design evaluation, an installation evaluation and commissioning tests confined to the requirements that its supplemental devices affect.
